ENGLISH LADIES’ CHAMPION SHIP. LONDON, Oct. 14
Miss Wethered won the final of the English Ladies’ Golf Championship at 1 hnist-anton, defeating Aliss Stocker seven and six. Miss Leiteli did not compete. Consequently Miss Wethered was a hot favourite. From the beginning, and until she reached the semifinal, sbe went through comfortably with big margins, by virtue of her imperturbable steadiness. In the semi-final, however, Aliss Moll.v Gourlay, a county player, from Surrey, was taking every advantage oi Miss Wetherod’s mistakes, which were numerous. Aliss Gourlay was two up at the twelfth hole. Eventually the crowd, of one thousand, saw .Miss We-tiu-red putting for the retention ol hertitle on the eighteenth, Miss Gourlay just missing a long putt. This enabled Miss Wethered to square the match with a stroke score of seventy seven to Aliss Gourlay’s seventy-nine. -Miss Wethered was lucky at the liincterntn, winning the closest championship match of her career, by lmlitig a six foot putt.
