After giving the pressure from Re veil Street, I proceeded to the fire with the No. 2 reel. On arrival r met the No. 1 reel which arrived by motor, and assisted in placing the hydrant etc. at the corner of Park and Healey Streets, the fire being in an unoccupied house on the reserve north of Park Street. On turning on the hydrant T discovered there was no pressure, caused through the water having to travel through a TJ pipe from Perham’s corner to the fire. This fact T overlooked, but oil discovering no pressure T immediately gave it from the corner of Healey and Hampden Streets. From the date of the fire until the 7t,li r kept the pressure on full for the purpose of watching the effect on the reservoir, but during that period I dis-
covered that some person had opened the valve (hand) troll! the main to the swimming baths aiul allowed it to fill to within 1 foot of the supply pipe. This together with the fact that 10,000 gallons was registered on the Sea View meter for the week following the fire, the effect on the reservoir «as that the water dropped from Bft flin to 3ft, hut has since steadily risen to Gft.—Received. OVERSEER’S REPORT. I beg to submit the following report on work completed during the past month. A considerable portion ol the month has been expended on drains and streets east of Bealoy Street. Gorse
and blackberry have been cut in Brittan, Rolleston, Davie, Weld, Fitzbeibert and Tudor Streets. Sections of drains in Brittan, Rolleston and Hampden Streets have been cleaned out and growth cut. A section of Rcidev Street drain collapsed on the Kith September, the timber being badly decayed, requiring renewal for a distance of 24 feet.
During the month we put in six crossings to residences, three concrete pipes, two timber and one gravel road. Two concrete crossings have also been put in, one at Revel! and Stafford Street, the other at Tailored Street crossing. Tile pipe line from the reservoir to Forks was inspected on the loth of the month. Several small leaks located were attended to, one portion of the line between Slip Hill and McKay’s creek where the river lias encroached will require attention if the river cuts the bank further. The usual street cleaning and maintenance work- has also been attended to during the month. —Received. TENDERS.
