HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT, i WELLINGTON, Oct 12. The Depatrment of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dat«l October 7th from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:—• MEAT.
The mutton market continues to be quiet. The lamb market is quiet, but firm. Beef, chilled, is again lower on account of heavy supplies.
The market for New Zealand beef continues quiet. Quotations axe:— Now 4. Zeialaiid mu,tton. —Lighttweight 7ld t oßd .medium 63d to 7id, heavyweight Old to 7d. Ewes—4|d to sgd.
New Zealand lamb.—Best quality light-weight Is to Is Old, heavy-weight IOJ-d to lid ~ordinary and second-class quality Is. New Zealand beef.—Ox fores 3Jd ox hinds 4Jd. Chilled beef.—Fores 31 cl. hinds sjd per lb. BUTTER. Tho demand continues to lie quiet, hut prices have advanced owing to the shortage of supplies. New Zealand butter at present is.selling at 218 s to 220 s per cwt. (Is lljd to Is Hid per lb). Official quotations are:— New Zealand—Salted 21&s to 224 s per cwt. (Is llid to 2s per lb), unsalted 224 s to 22Gs per cwt (2s to 2s OJd per lb). Australian—Salted 204 s to 210 s per cwt (Is 3d per lb), up to 214 s per cwt (Is 10Jd per lb)., unsalted 210 s to 210 s per cwt (Is 10id to Is lid per Hi), up to 21&s per cwt. (Is ll.\d per lb).
—2o4s to 212 s per cwt. (Is 93d to Is 103 d per lb). Irish—Salted 10s to 204 s per cwt. (Is S',d to Is 93d per lb), unsalted 204 sto 212 s per cwt. (Is 93d to Is 103 d per lb). Danish—22Bs to 230 s per cwt. (2s Old to 2s 03d per lb). CHEESE.
The market is steadier. Official quotations are:— English—Finest farmers 112« to 116* per cwt. (Is to Is 0)d per yb). Canadian—Coloured 90s to 100 s per cwt. (10id to 103 d pur lb), white 96s to 100 s per cwt. (101 d to 10Jd per lb). New Zealand—Coloured 96s to 100 s per cwt. (l(Rd to 103 d per lb), white 9&s to 102 s per cwt (lOld to lid per lb). , , A shipment of New Zealand produce arrived this week by the. s-s. Ruapehu. CASEIN. French rennett is quoted at £6B to £72 per ton. HEMP. The Manilla market is quiet but steady at the decline. “J” October-December shipments were -soli down to £3l per ton. “G”' is qw°tcd at £33s 15s per ton, and ‘ 1 at L.i15s per ton. The New. Zealand maiwet continues quiet. Highpoints Oct-ober-December shipments were sold at £32s IDs per ton, and fair is now quoted "at £3O 15s per toil. Output Manila, January Ist to September 300 , totalled 903,000 bales, against oGUXW bales for the same period last year. WOOL. The Bradford market has a hrm tone lor merino and line-cross met.
