BIG VICTORIAN STRIKE. MELBOURNE, September 28.
It is feared Victoria is on the eve of a big engineering strike, tile men stating that they are determined bf resist the extension of their hours from 44 to 48 weekly. A conference is being held at the Trades H;dl to-morrow to discuss what action is to be taken.
N.S.W. ENGINEERS. SYDNEY, September 28. A r.-.nferenco bold between flic Shipping Tribunal and the Federated Soeietv of Boilermakers and the management of Cockatoo Island, discussed the dismissal of boilermakers (cabled on September 13th). The men asked the Tribunal to give a decision as to whether the management bad violated the Shipbuilding Agreement between the Federal Government and the boilermakers bv dismissing a number of the men from new work, owing to a difference over repair work, and the use of pneumatic tools. The Tribunal upheld the management. Tt stated the latter acted within its province in dismissing the men. The men will discuss resumption at a meeting on Tuesday.
