BOXING FINALS. (Received this day at 8 a.in.) HOBART, Sept. 28. A great crowd witnessed the finals of the Australasian boxing championships. All the contests except the heavy were exciting and close. New Zealanders won the welter, feather and middle divisions, putting up a brilliant showing. Hansen was stronger than Neilsen and had slightly tbe better of a good fight. The New Zealander used both hjnmls effectively, particularly his snappy right.
Purdy was hard pressed to beat Rustueliia who was very lively. The -New Zealander scored principally with bis right and left swings proving himself a cleaner and more experienced boxer, but lie won by the narrowest of margins.
Are Donald and Thomson provided the best contest of the evening. The New Zealander fought fiercely throughout. Thomson had the better of the first two rounds but McDonald outstayed him, using both hands with telling effect. They could not be separated and were ordered to box an extra round. Thomson hit desperate\v and eleviner than his opponent and won by the narrowest of margins. The men were cheered.
The Afeale and Smith bout was another great go. Afeale the Now Zealander, showing more science. Smith kept him going hard throughout, hut Aleale fought cleverly, doing most of the leading and following up with snappy rights to the body and face. Pcet was too vigorous and lively for Nolan.
