Hokitika Beautifying Association.

THURSDAY, SEPT 26th

The monthly meeting was held at the Town Hall at 7.30 o’clock. Present : Hon H. L. Alichel (President); Airs Bennett, Alessrs Pilkington, Davidson, AVild, Evans, and Niven. An apology was received from Air Boyd.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence approved. The Borough Council wrote agreeing lo pay half the cost of a rotary sweeper for Cass Square.—Received and machine purchased, giving a satisfactory trial. The Hon Secretary reported the work done to the Alemorial site grounds was now completed. The ground had been levelled and turfed, and the flower beds planted out. A supply of gravel was required to finish the pathway. Useful storm drains had been put in in wet places of the Square, and other minor work attended to. Alacandrew Square had received attention also, and there was a particularly good show of flowers just at present. A supply of English seeds had been received through Air A'arrall. Two concerts had been held during the month, winding up the community singing for the year. The Association was specially indebted to Atiss Daly. Airs Houston, and Alessrs Hawn, Aldridge and Preston for ready help with the singing. A speeial vote of thanks was accorded the ladies and gentlemen. October 18th to 28th was suggested ns the time for the citizens’ attention to residential frontages. Donations were received as follows : Alessrs Davidson. H. A. Thompson, and AY. J. Butler 10s each; Alessrs A’arrall. Urquhnrt and two other gentlemen. £T each.—Received with thanks. Tlie Treasurer reunited £ls in hand, ami accounts to £33 outstanding. Tt was resolved to pay accounts as far ns funds would permit, and to invite further donations to the funds.

It- was decided to take steps to organise for Paddy’s Afarket to be held

on Cass Square on Saturday, November 4th., and to invite the assistance of the Cycling Club, Hockey Clubs and Football Clubs. Also to convene a meeting of ladies for 3 o’clock on Thursday after noon to organise a committee of stallholders with a view to securing as large a financial result as possible. It was reported the Football Sub-Un-ion contemplated holding a benefit match for the Association. Tt- was decided to confer with Mr McGregor on hte matter. It was resolved, also, to ask Mr Haile to report as to proposals for improving the playing field on the western side of the Square, and to report as to any other ground improvements.
