WELLINGTON, Sept. 21 THE COUNCIL. The Council met at 2.30 p.m.

The Council agreed unanimously to confirm the action taken by the Government in regard to the appeal made by the Imperial authorities. The leader of the Council (Sir Win Eraser) stated that the British nation faced a great crisis and only by showing a bold front could it prevent the tearing up of the Treaty of Sevres. The presentsituation showed the impotence of the League of Nations and the need for strengthening the League until it became an association which could force its will upon the world.

Christchurch City Sanitation Em, powering Bill and Christchurch Municipal Offices Leasing Bill were put through the final stages and passed with amendment.

The Council rose at 4.10 p.m. THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. The Minister of Defence in the ('•nurse of a statement said that enlistments in connection with the suggested contingent to the Near East now totalled practically 10,000. Customs Amendment Bill and Weight and Measures Amendment Bill were put through committee stage, read a third time and passed. State Advances Amendment Bill was put through 'committee stage with the addition of a clause moved by the Premier, enabling n higher rate of interest to be charged in new money lent. If the money lmd to be borrowed at 5 per cent it would be lent at six, with ball per cent rebate for prompt payment. The clause was agreed to. The House rose at 10.50 p.m.
