AUSTRALIA* AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. KING’S -MESSAGE TO QUEST. LONDON, Sept. 19 His Majesty, in a message of welcome to Wild and bis comrades on the Quest, says—“ While lam grieved that your leader was not spared, I consider your record of achievement and the indomitable spirit displayed by all in every way worthy of his great example.”
RUSSIA AND TI.S. WASHINGTON, Sept. 19. The State Department has received the Soviet reply to the American suggestion for sending a Technical Commission to Russia to investigate conditions. The Soviet definitely refused to welcome the commission. The State Department considers this reply terminated any Soviet proposals for a resumption of relations between Russia and United Stntos.
ALLEGED TREATY. WASHINGTON, Sept 20
The Greek Legation has issued what purports to be the text of a treaty between Russia, Germany and Turkey, which, the Legation says, the Greek Government obtained ip Constantinople from the Allied Legation. According to this treaty the threecountries agreed to make a common front against the enemy of any one and to pursue'• a common foreign policy against any nation acting arrogantly towards the powers defeated in th o Great War. Other nations of common interest with territory contignous, it continues, can join the Alliance. whose members pledge each other to fayouied national treatment economically a fid not to lay down arms until the national aspirations of each member shall have been fully satisfied.
SOVIET AND FRANCE. PARIS. Sept 20. According to “Le Temps,” the Soiyet is proposing to France a new Franco-Russian alliance as a guarantee against an attack from Germany. JAPS AND PACIFIC. TOKIO. Scpember 19. The Japanese delegates to the Fan Pacific Conference at Honolulu have been instructed to urge a free port in Hawaii, and the abolition of the coast wise shipping restrictions in all Pacific lands.
PACIFIC CABLE. LONDON, September 19. The Pacific Cable Board, having decided to lay a cable from Brisbane to Sydney to overcome its land line difficulties, is awaiting tlie Commonwealth’s approval of the proposition. The Board intends shortly to lay a cable between Fiji and Now Zealand, ns thermal action affects the Norfolk Island bifureantions. It also contemplates extending the Fiji line to Samoa later.
