Consistently the games followed the service until Paterson broke through Williams service and won four games in succession. In the second set Williams won the firstgame to love, but then seemed to break up. Paterson’s service was too speedy. In the third set Paterson continued splendidly until the fourth game when lie served five double faults and seemed to lose his nerve. Williams took the next four games, but Paterson then recovered his steadiness and won the last three.
