Alleged Perjury.

WARRANT AGAINST MINISTER.

THE TENEMENT CASf

[by TELEGRAPH —PER I’UESS ASSOCIATION']

WELLINGTON, September 13. At the Magistrate’s Court to-day the adjourned hearing of a charge brought on an information laid by Nellie Evans, boardinghouse-keeper,, against the Rev. Samuel Robertson Orr was called.

The case is the sequel to the action recently determined in the Supreme Court, in which £2OO damages was given against the defendant in connection with a dispute about the tenancy of a house. In her information, Nellie Evans said that she had cause to suspect that defendant caused complainant to receive a document stating that unless the informant gave tip the judgment in the Supreme Court, two witnesses in the previous case would lie accused of perjury. The letter also contained offers of assistance by certain persons not named, if the complainant gave up the judgment of the Supremo Court. Counsel for the defendant, Mr 0. C. Mazengarb, applied for an adjournment for a week on the ground that defendant was unable to be in Wellington on account of ill-liealtli. He said that defendant had left for the' South Island on Armenian relief work, and when returning to answer The charge collapsed. The medical advice given was to the effect that he should have a complete rest. Mr E. G. Jellicoc counsel for complainant objected to tlie adjournment. He alleged that Orr had locked up the house against the sheriff, had sold a motor-car at Palmerston North, eluded the police and left for the South, and issued a bill of sale on bis effects at stating that lie was a resident of Christchurch. Counsel applied for the issue of a warrant fin Git’s arrest. He stated that a charge of perjury was pending against Orr. The Magistiate granted the adjournment.
