LATE LOCALS

On Wednesday evening in St Mary’s Chib Rooms was held another of the popular card tournaments which was inaugurattd some time ago by the friendly Societies of this town. Tho opposing teams on this occasion were the members of the Fire Brigade and Hibernians. After an enjoyable couple of hours spoilt at cards, tho Fire Brigade emerged the victors. After cards, refreshments were indulged in .and the usual toast list tvas gone through. Song, story, and recitation ;wi tli reminiscences of happy times spent in Hokitika in the good old milling days, given by a couple of veteran members, all (tendered to make the evening’s amusement very Enjoyable and pnteredtiiig. Among those win) contributed items were Messrs Close, Brnddon, 11 ceil an. Stopfortli. McMahon, Rouse, Kortegast, Davidson, and others. The evening terminated ill the “wee sina’ hours” with tin singing of Auld Lang Syne, all agreeing that a thorough enjoyable evening had been spent. Mr Groufsky ably curried out the duties of Chairman. It is understood that next week will again see another such function when tlie Hibernians will try conclusions with the Druids.
