The Secretary of the. Genrnl Post Office lias received the following from the Postmaster at Awanui, dated Saturday, Sept. 9th:—“At 8 p.m., ship rockets wero seen off the west coast.”

A message also from the Postmaster at Kaitaia was received on Saturday as follows: “At 11.20 p,m., signals were still being flashed from a boat in distress off Reef Point. The Postmaster lias notified Whangape. where they are now getting steam up on [the tug. which will proceed to the vessel’s assistance in half an hour, the scone being about fifteen miles north of Whangape. f.ater the Secretary of the General Post Office was advised that the tug Oliineinuri left Whangape at midnight. She took a fifteen mile zigzag course, burning five blue lights. There is very dirty weather on the western coast ot North Auckland at present, and a liortvy mist. The tug was unable to see further than one milo ahead. The captain reports, from W han<mpe at 11.40 a.in. to-day (Sunday) having seen no trace of the boat or wreckage, lie will make another trip to-morrow (Monday). (Note. —Reef Point is on tho west coast of North Auckland, between Hokianga Harbour and Cape Maria Van Dieman.)
