Hokitika School Committee.

AIONDAY, SEPTEMBER 4th. The Committee met at 7.30 p.m. Present —Alessrs AA r . IT. Shannon (Chairman), D. Stevenson, J. King, T. AA r . Bruce, A. Aitken, Rev. A. C. Purelias and S. J. Preston (Hon. Sec.) The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. Air AVild (member of the Canterbury Education Board) wn« present and discussed a. number of matters affecting education.

INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Teacher South Spit reporting for July there was an average attendance 19.7, and for Auguct 19.3 out of roll number of 20.— Received.

From Education Board, forwarding examination report, for South Spit, re. porting results very fair.—Received ; the teacher to be complimented on the result.

The Rector (Mr .T. Irvine) roported the average attendance for the two weeks before the vocation was 418. Received.

Small accounts were passed for payment.

The Chairman moved that the Committee urge Aft- AVihl to bring before the Canterbury Board the question of the amending of the regulations with a view to enabling the Board to submit at least three names of applicants for any position as teacher instead of only one as at present. Seconded by Air Aitken and carried. The Committee then rose.
