WINE BARS. SYDNEY, August 28. The Govcrnmen has decided to impose a fee on wine bars of 2 per cent, of the value of the liquor purchased, and to subject them to stricter supervision in future. No new licenses will be issued to women. •:
REGULATING LOTTERIES
[Received this day at 9.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, Aug 30. A new Bill which the Government is introducing to regulate lotteries and art unions, contains a drastic provisions for safeguarding the public. Any newspapers publishing results of Tattersall’s sweep or Golden Caskets or advertisements or information relating to lotteries outside of New South Wales will be liable to a fine of £2OO sterling. Regulations also provide
against indiscriminate raffles and art unions, which of late years have become too rampant, and against the misuse of any funds raised by such
functions Another important amendment makes penalties summarily recoverable in the police court, instead of through th e Supreme Court as previously.
