West Coast Golf Championship.
The West Coast tournament commenced yesterday morning .on the Muhinapua Links, when Westport and Greymouth were well represented, as well as the local Club. Mr Wyvern Wilson, of Hagley Park Club, Christchurch. was also an entrant. The moming began with a fresh, breeze from the north, but this did not affect the play. The first event was the qualifying rounds for the West Coast Championships for men and for ladies, played over eighteen holes, medal play, eight players returning the best scores in each section to play off by match play. Concurrently the men played a medal handicap, also the match for the Dalgliesh shield by teams of four players, and the ladies played a medal handicap, also a teams match for the ladies’ shield.

Mrs Maefarlnne (Hokitika.) 118 Mrs Hannan (Greymouth) US Mrs J. Fair (Westport) 120 The men’s medal handicap was won by N. Pigou ("Westport) with a net score of 84 and Mrs McCaskill (Hokitika) won the ladies’ medal handicap with a net score of 89. The Westport “A” team comprising Messrs Fair, McKinley, Croudis and Pigou, secured the Dalglfesh shield with a score of 376.
Hokitika “A” team and Westport "A” teams tied for the ladies’ shield each, with a score of -165. In the afternoon the men’s bogey handicap over 18 holes, and the ladies’ bogey handicap over 13 holes, were played. Rain set in after the players had all got away and militated against the play, hut cleared again before the conclusion of the match. Mr Henley of Westport, brought in tile l>est card, being 1 up, while Mrs A. A. Wilson of Westport, among the ladies, proved -the winner with a score of 3 down.
To-day the rounds for. both, championships are being played. Also both men’s and ladies’ flight handicaps. In the first round .of the men’s match Fair (W), heat Shallcrass (G) up and l' Pigou (W) heat Croudis (W) 1 up and 3, McKinley (W) beat Wilson (W) 5 up and 3, and Chesney <H) heat Matheson (G) 5 up and 4. For the first round ladies’ championship, Mrs Wilson (W) heal \Mrs Fair (IV) 5 up and 3, Mrs Slec (W) heat Mrs Macfarlanc (IT) 6 up and 5. Miss M. E. Moore (H) heat Miss Kettle (G) 5 un and 3, and Mrs Hannan (0) heat Mrs McCaskill (H) 2 up.
