Tire Government is taking the right course iu determining to have the Dominion represented at the British Empire Exhibition to be held in 1924. In the House of Representatives last week, the Hon. E. P. Lee, Minister in charge of Industries made 'ftie following statement on the subject of Now Zealand’s participation in t-he British Empire Exhibition : Cabinet has decided that New Zealand will expend on the enterprise a total sum of £60,000, and this expenditure will be spread over three Budgets. It it proposed to ask the House to vote fTW.OOO for th c year ending March 31. 1923. This allocation i'r to provide for the erection of a New Zealand pavilion, for the cost of procuring exhibits, and for all charges in connection therewith together with maintenance and all incidental expenses. In informing the exhibition authorities of this decision the Government has alm> intimated that- it will participate in the proposed Imperial sections of the exhibition (for which no charge wiTI be made). These Imperial sections will be devoted to displays in connection with the progress of scientific research throughout the Empire, and will in particular illustrate the causes and life history of plant diseases which injure agriculture. and of all dangerous tropical diseases. Other special features in this Imperial section will ho a display of mineral resources and fisheries. The Government also has undertaken to provide exhibits for the Empire section devoted to works of art. Steps already have been taken by the Government to organise committees throughout the Dominion to ensure the success of New Zealand’s participation in the exhibition.
