SEDDON SHIELD TEAM. The following £0 players have been chosen by the West Coast selectors to go into training for the challenge match agains't Nelson. The team will bo chosen from these players, but should any player or players be training unsatisfactorily other names will be substituted in their stead. AH available players set out below are to meet at the Star Hall on Monday evening at 7.30 for the purpose of drawing up a timetable for training operations. 'l’lie players selected are:—Russell, Steel, Hcaphy, Goodall, Stevens, Reynolds, Powey, Nelson Ryan, Hngar, E. King, Bannister, Hall, Maloney, Deere Egon, Burley, Pring, Goodall and Delanev.

The selectors will be present on Monday evening to meet the players.

It is definitely stated by the Union officials that if the training operations of the players do not reach the expectations of the selectors the trip to Nelson will be abandoned.

fBY TELEORAPH—PER PRESS ASSOCIATION] ALL BLACKS V. MANAWATU. PALMERSTON NORTH, August' 15. The All Blacks played their first match on their return from Australia here to-day against a Manawatu team, reinforced hv four Wellington ’Varsity mjeii—Siddeils, Trapski, Malfroy and Troy.

Manawatu opened vigorously, and Siddeils scored within two minutes. Swiiinston converted. Over-eager|nesd then caused Manawatu to be penalised, and Fitzgerald goaled. Siddeils secured another try shortly afterwards. Swninson’s kick missed. Manawatu 8; All Blacks 3.

The All Blacks got going properly after this, the forwards, with Beilis in the van, giving a great display on the damp ground. There was a succession of tries. Ford, cleverly in-passing with White, got home, but Nicholls’s kick missed. Cupples and White scored in succession, and Nicholls converted both tries. The spell ended : All Blacks 16: Manawatu 8. Donald injured his ankle and was replaced by Williams in the second spell. The monotony of the All Blacks’ scores in the second spell was broken by a great dash by Lceder, who intercepted a pass from Beilis and scored. Tries for New Zealand were obtained bv Ford (3), Richardson, Cupples, Baddeley (2), 51. Nicholls (2), and Bell converted one try. Nicholls nlso kicked a penalty goal. The final score was: All Blocks 45; Manawatu IT.

WELLINGTON TOURING TEAM. DEFEAT 51ARLBOROUGH. BLENHEIM, August 16. The AVellington touring team defeated Marlborough to-day by 20 to 8, the visitors putting on 17 points in the second spell to the home team’s nil. The Wellington backs showed magnificent combination, being extremely safe with the ball. In the first spell the visitors’ efforts were nullified by deadly tackling on the part of the srarborougli forwards. As tile game wore on, the local forwards tired, and Wellington had it pretty much their own way, their superior condition telling. AVellington’s scores were tries by .Murray and Gibson, both of which were converted by Murphy, as well as a putted goal by Gibson. slarlborougli’s score comprised a try by Connelly, which was converted by A. O'Brien, and a. penalty goal by A. O’Brien.

Southland bad the upper hand in the iirst spell, and in the last ten minutes of the game. Eor Southland, Robert Oughton (2) and Scott scored tries, Agnew converting one and for Hawke’s Bay Batchelor scored, Yates missing with the kick. Mr I'. Scott was referee. The attendance was .5000.

The Auckland touring Rugby team opened its South Island itinerary at Timaru to-day against South Canterbury losing a hard closely contested game by 8 points to 6. The northern backs were smart and clever in defence, but the local forwards wore overbearing and full of running. The northern attack lacked sting. and showed ait inclination to hesitate, instead of pressing homo advantages. Thomas, alte ra finely combined run by the backs, crossed for Auckland, but Ifwerson failed with the kick. The latter scored :f penalty goal later. Ward scored both the local tries, also converting one.
