MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 17th. (Before AY. Meldrum lisq., S-M.) LICENSING ACT. The Police charged R. I’. Willetts with procuring liquor while prohibited. Defendant did not appear. Fined £2 and costs 7s.
Same v. R. F. Cochrane (.Mr Sellers) a similar charge. A plea of guilty was entered, counsel making a plea that he had been ill. Fined 5s and costs 7s.
The police charged a local resident with being on licensed promises after hours (Occidental Hotel) on two separate dates, who pleaded not guilty. After hearing evidence a conviction was recorded, costs 7s to he paid, in one ease the other being struck out. Another resident, similarly charged under the same circumstances pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay costs 7s. Tho police charged two local residents with being niter horns on licensed premisers (Commercial Hotel), who did not appear. Both were convicted, one (a first offender) was ordered to pay costs 13s, and the other was fined 20s and costs 7s.
The Police charged two residents with being on licensed premises (Red Lion Hotel) after hours. One did not appear and the other, through Air Sellers pleaded not guilty. Both were convicted and ordered to pay costs 7s each.
A similar charge against another resident (Pioneer Hotel) was not defended. Fined 20s and costs 7s.
Similar charges against two defendants (Southland Hotel) were not defended. Convicted and ordered to pay costs 7s. CYCLING AT NTGHT.
AVm. Linklater, charged with cycling in Rovoll St., at night without a light was convicted and fined 5s and eo*ts 7s PURE FOODS ACT.
The Police charged C. Pfahlert with selling bread at ICanieri, short weight who pleaded guilty. Sergt. King stated that should have weighed 441hs, actually weight weighed 42 lbs 6Jozs. Bread had been weighed at the premises on several occasions before, and had been found to he full weight. Defendant stated the hatch was well baked. At other times the Inspector had stated the weight was good. Fined £2 and costs 7s.
DEBT CASES. AV. Stewart v. .T. AL'CaUister claim £7 19s 3d. Judgment for plaintiff with costs 22s fic|.
The sum of 1.5 s (id was allowed counsel (Mr Murdoch) in a case where defendant had paid into court without, giving due notice to plaintiff.
