[by telegraph—per press association] WBMiTNGTON, August 16. THE COUNCIL. Tho Council mot to-day at 2.30 p.m. Tlio Animals Protection Amendment Bill was introduced by Hon. G. M. Thompson pud the Juries Act Amendment Bill was introduced by Hon. J. McGregor and read a first time.
Rotorua Borough Bill was read a second time pro forma and referred to the Statutes Revision Committee, which Committee recommended that the Naval Defence Amendment Bill and Land Drainage Amendment Bill should he allowed to ptocoed without amendment.
Tho Council rose at 4.47 p.m. THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. The Aged and Infirm Persons Protection Amendment Bill and Advances To Settlers Amendment Bill were introduced hy Government and read a 'first time. At the evening sitting, Mr Mitchell, moved the second reading of the Child .Sustenance Bill, which was agreed to after a lengthy debate. The Premier, however, intimated that the Bill could not pass, as it was an Appropriation Bill. The House went into committee on the Hutt Road Amendment Bill which was reported without amendment, read a third time and passed. The House rose at 10.30 p.m
