[BV TELEGRAPH —PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Aug. 15 . THE COUNCIL.. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. Hon Thompson gave notice of intention to introduce the Animals Protection Amendment Bill. The Naval Defence Amendment Bill and Land Drainage Amendment Bill were read a second time pro lorma and referred to the Statutes Revision Comin ittee. The Land Tax (annual) Bill was received from the Lower House and put through all stages and passed without amendment. Local Bodies Loans Amendment Bill was put through committee stage. Amendments made by the Statutes Revision Committee were agreed to. Sir Win Fraser stated Government intended to fix amounts that might l>e raised by individual local bodies for the relief of unemployed. The Bill was read a third time and passed. The Council adjourned at 3:30 p.m.

THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. In the House the Coal Mine Amendment Bill was introduced and read a first time. The remainder of the sitting was taken up mainly, with a discussion of the dairy industry and on the annual report of the Forestry De- s partment. At the evening sitting, Mr Massey, as Minister of Finance, read the Financial Statement, a task which occupied 2t hours and was concluded amidst . , applause. At the request of Mr Wilford, the.
