Heath and Heather Day.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 2. The campaign for funds for the Robert Hums statue to be erected in Hokitika is now well under way. At a meeting of ladies at the Town I’all yesterday afternoon the following committee was set up to conduct the Heat h and Heather'Day to he held on Saturday. September 2nd Mosdames t'rquhart (chair), Thompson. W. Houston, Cowie, Stevenson, Rowe. .1. Smith, Davidson, Stuart, Harrow-nan, Pilkington, King, Aitken, 1- imllav, Perluun, and Misses Evans and Davidson chon, secretary). An apology was received from Mrs Park, who forwarded a contribution of hall a guinea. Mr Evans, secretary of the general fund, explained the scope of the proposed day and stated supplies of heath and heather had been ordered from Nairn and Sons of Christchurch, v.Pile further supplies were promised hvalh. It was intended to have heath red hoiither, s also spring How, rs, oil sale, and also to l.ave supplies of home cooking on sale at the depot situated in Revel) Street. Mr S. J. Preston would idac - the ‘ Don” premises at the disposal of the committee, the members of which were invited to add to their number by asking their friends to co-operate. Numerous oifers to bake were re-
ceived, including various Scotch rnv-ot-s, anil it was decided also to have a sweets stall of home made sweeties. It was resolved to ask Mr llovd to arrange for pots of heath and heather plants to he on sale, and to arrange for Sen tell lassies to undertake tire sale of the flowers. It was decided to ask the Pipe band P, p-mide in the evening, and to nrrange for Scotch dancing and. community singing in the open air. At the open air entertainment a collection will he taken up.
•|-|-c ladies present formed themselves into sub-committees to canvas-, f t refreshments to lie on sale at the depot, and gifts of all kinds to help the fund will he welcomed from all quarters. Those contributing gifts or donations may communicate with Miss Davidson, bon secretary. A varied list of home cooked favors was suggested including Scotch broth, oatcake, girdle semes, haggis, pikelets, potted head. Vherd'.en rolls, bannocks, Scotch pies, shot-thread, ginger snaps, cakes, sweeties etc. (lifts of ingredients will be welcomed also, and the Secretary (Miss Davidson) may he notified of same.
