Is AWAI’ ISLAND. AUCKLAND. August 15. A. J. Farmer, owner of Kawau Island, to-day, handed over to the official Assignee the papers promised when he made the statement at a nffeeting of creditors that he had been negotiating with the Japanese Government for the sale to them of Kawau. None of the papers refer to aii offer by the Japanese Government. Two letters wero written to flic bankrupt by his solicitors and another was forwarded to Nislrmura of Sydney by tbe English Secretary at the Imperial Japanese Consulate General, together with a letter lie received from a Sydney solicitor, [’he letter to Nishimura set out Farmer’s title to part of Kawau. The other two otters from Farmer’s solicitors were to Farmer, then in Sydney, and expressed the opinion there was nothing to provenS*Japanese Labour being employed at Kawau, Ft stated that Japmese could acquire freehold property in New Zealand.
