YESTERDAY’S PROCEEDINGS. ROAD MAKING PLANT SPECIAL TO GUARDIAN. CHRISTCHURCH. Aug 11. The Progress Delegation members were iti the country yesterday forenoon inspecting road-making machinery including a ten ton motor road roller similar to a machine ordered In the Grey County; also a road scaritier and other plant.

CAMBRIAN SOCIETY. A social gathering of the Canterbury Camill ain Society was held in the Dorothy Rooms last night and was highlv successful. Air A. .Tones presiding over a large attendance. The Welsh National Anthem was sung. In extending a hearty welcome to Mr D. .1. Evans .the Chairman read a letter • from a member of the Society who apologised for being unable to attend, and who wrote that during the writer’s visit to the Coast, he had found Mr Evans well-known throughout and beyond the confines of Westland, and Ills activities were such that it seemed to the writer that Mr Evans was the l.loyd . .corgi' of the Coast. (Applause). . Mr Evans in acknowledging the very cordial welcome extended to him also returned thanks for his election ns Vice-President of the Society. He felt that it was an honour, indeed, and he had taken the earliest opportunity of attending one of the Society’s gatherings. He extended an invitation to members to visit the exhibition to he held in Hokitika m 1!)U-I. and assured all who paid a visit to the Coast, of a hearty wel-
