Miss Marion Haekell has received word from the Director of Education that, as a result of the recent X'Diversity Exam, slip has qualified for a teacher’s “B” certificate. Owing to circumstances unforeseen the visit of H. B. S. Hammond had to he postponed at the last minute and a large audience which assembled to hear this famous orator was disappointed. However, a rearrangement has been made and Mr Hammond wdl lie here on Thursday, Aug. 24th.

The death of Mi Henry Creutzfeldt took place last evening at his residence South lU'vcll Street after a short illness. Deceased was a native of SlcswigHolstiin Denmark and 82 years of age. He came to New Zealand 60 years ago, and for a number of years was fanning at Humphreys. Sixteen years ago he retired and came into Hokitika to reside. His wife pre-deceased liim some 8 years ago.

A Westport correspondent states: — During the recent hour down the Coast, the Rival representative foot-! haliers were most hospitably treated hy the Hokitika folk. One of our local Rtjghv officials who has been a football enthusiast for over thirty years, and who has travelled north, south, east and west with visiting teams, informs me that he has never met with such splendid treatment. The visitors were treated to motor drives, picture theatres, domplimen-tai-y dinners and what was particularly appreciated by the local reps., thoit Hokitika hosts accompanied them on every occasion. The men thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and all are looking forward to going south again as soon as the opportunity offers.
