WESTLAND PROGRESS LEAGUE.
TUESDAY, JULY 25th. A special meeting of the above was held at the County Chambers at 7.35 p.lll. Present: Messrs D. J. Evans. (President), W. Jeffries, R. Wild, T. AA T . Bruce, J. C. Mncfarlnne, A. G. Pilkiiigton, J. Ritchie, AAY Dalgleish. J. J. Mclntosh, T. AAL Duff and J, Morris (Hon. Secretary). Apology was made for tho absence of Air AY. .1 Butler.
The Chairman explained that the mooting had been called to consider a pressing invitation from the Canterbury Progress League to visit Christchurch for National week.
The following programme had been outlined:—
Saturday. August sth.—Arrive at Christchurch, Gi3o p,m.; Savage C'lub at 8 p.m.
Sunday 6th.—Motor trip to Hanmer Springs.
Monday, 7th.—AHsit to Lake Co bridge Power Station.
Tuesday Bth.—lnspect AVoolston Tanneries, (morning) ; Grand National, (afternoon). AA’ednesday 9th.—(Morning) Inspect Electrical Department City Council, Tepid Baths, and Fire Brigade Station; (afternoon). Trotting Meeting: (evening) 7.30 Conference with Executive, Canterbury Progress League in rlcgard bo opening ceremony for Oftira tunnel; the issue of a Canter-bury-AAbstland souvenir liooklot, and to discuss the details of the AA’ostlaud Jubilee Exhibition, 1924. Thursday, 10th.— (Morning) Inspect Aulsebrook and CVs Factory and Islington Freezing AA’orks; (afternoon), Riccarton Races; (evening), Cambrian Society’s "social. Friday lltli.—(Morning), A T isit Kniapoi AVoollen Alills; (afternoon) Trotting Meeting. Saturday ]2tb.—Leave Christchurch on return to AA'estland.
Other trips to Akaroa, Lincoln College etc., could be arranged as desired in substitution for the racing meetings, at the wish of the visiting delegates. The Chairman emphasised the imixirtiuice of the discussion with the Canterbury League in respect to the various matters to ho discussed, and various general details in respect to the proposed exhibition were considered. It was stated the Hon H. 1.. Michel had expressed his intention of being present at the Conference. Several members agreed to visit Christchurch as suggested, the first party leaving on the sth August, and the second by special car on the 7th August. The meeting took up the proposal for the Contercnce very heartily, and the delegation will he representative of the League. Any member oil the League wishing to join the delegation should advise the Secretary not later than Friday next to enable accommodation to he secured in Christchurch. It was resolved to invite representatives of the Grey mouth, Reefton, and AAYstport- Leagues to join the delegation and take part in Hie visit so as to make it representative of the West Coast.
The Chairman stated that while in Christchurch recently lie had conferred with Mr Kcnnear of the Y.M.C.A. with regard to a visit of a walking party to AA’estland at Christmas. The party will number about 50, and AVaiho Gorge will he the objective, Dr Teieliolnmnn having offered to act as honorary guide. It is preposed to travel hy train from Christchurch to Ross oil the Saturday preceding Christinas, and during the following three day s walk hy suitable stages to AA’ailio Gorge. The stages suggested were Hari Hari. AVatnroa and AVaiho. where large Kills re available for camping accommodation. It was desired the visit might he under the auspices of the League, and it was resolved to accede to the request, and to arrange for motor transport for swags and camp utensils. Three days are to be passed at the AA'aiho and the party will return to Christchurch for January 2nd." The arrangements .suggested were generally approved. Tim President. Vice-President and Secretary were deputed to arrange for the community sing on Saturday night next in aid of the funds ol the League, and also with the object ol stimulating public interest in the work ol the League, the object of
