BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS. TIMARU, July 25.

The South Island Boxing Championships opened here to-night. A record entry was received, numbering 31 competitors, of which number thoro were tho following scrateliings over weight: —Lloyd (fly); l’ryde (bantam), Oamaru; O’Neill (welter). Greymoutli; Pickles (feather), AYestporL; E. Parker (middle), Christchurch. In addition Harvey (welter), Invercargill; MrMullan (bantam), Dunedin did not attend. V. Parker (light), Timaru, and McKenna (heavy) Timaru, forfeited. All t o bouts were evenly contested, the boxing seen being of a high standard. A feature , was the display of scientific work of T. Griffiths (Dunedin).

The only filial was the light-heavy Parker (Christchurch) easily beating Stevcn s (Christchurch). Following are the results: Feather —T. Armstrong (Christchurch) heat R. Fulcher (Dunedin); A. Paseoo (Greymouth) heat . J. Sycamore ('nvereargill). . Semi-final—AY. Drew (Oninaru) beat T. Armstrong (Christchurch). Middle-AVeights—L. O’Neill (Greymouth) heat H. North (Dnendin), the referee stopping the fight in the filial round. Heavy-AVeiglit—A. McCormack (Ashburton) heat A. Smith (Oamaru). AA’elter-AA’eight—T. Harris (Dunedin) heat A. Thompson (Christchurch); J. Stewart (Timaru) heat Griffiths (AA’estport). ' Light-AVeight- L. McDonald (Dunedin) heat J. Nelson (Greymouth). Fiy-AA’eight—l’. Griffiths (Dunedin) lieat AY. V. Howell (Christchurch). The championships will he concluded to-morrow evening.
