THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES
New Zealand Pjioduce. “I recognise, as all of you do,’’ said the Minister of Agriculture in Wellington last week, “that we are not likely to come to a period of reasonable prosperity until the cost of production is brought down, and also some satisfactory reduction made in taxation. These are the main causes which are hampering u s from pushing forward in that direction which we are nil desirous to take. In production the dairy industry has had a record season as regards butter, cheese, and dried milk. Lambing show ed a high average percentage; the wool-clip was a good one. The wheat crop was heavy, and crops good in general. Fruitgrowing, poultry-keep-ing, and bee-keeping all show development.”
