THE TENNIS CHAMPION. LONDON, July 11
The Manchester “Guardian” iu an editorial, says Patterson is an athlete worthy to rank with Brookes and Wilding. He has carried off tlie tennis championship, and none except an American or»two, could deprive him of it. If there were any forcing method of producing an English champion, it is feasible we might abandon cricket, which is not played in America, hut most people would sooner see a score of tennis championships go west. The only helpful thing will he to build more hard courts, so that people can play in the winter. LONDON, July 11. O’Hara Wood and Miss Lenglen beat Washer and Mrs Warhttry, 6—2, o—l. Lyeett and Miss Ryan heat Crawley and Miss MeCnne ■L-0, 6—3.
