At the proceedings against a* barber and bis live assistants cabled on the !)tli June, on a charge of conspiring to defraud the people of large sums, various witnesses including plain clothes police, gave evidence that they wore charged from a few shillings to over L'M vvlion they entered the shop for a haircut, whereto certain head skin treatment was added at (lie barber’s suggestion of effectiveness and authenticity of such induced t rent umul. Amongst the Issues involved aas that, one, a, policeman testified that bis protest against a bill for C 3 3s 9d for violet ray treatment for the removal of three hairs in addition to a haircut, resulted in a reduction to 10s fid, till* raiding by the police having appeared meantime. j COMMUNITY SINGING. It has already got a strong hold in the leading centres in South Australia and West Australia and is proving most popular. The success of the movement in New Zealand and its inspiring effect upon public life, is widely quoted in support. KEMMIS MURDER ARRESTS. SYDNEY, July 12.
The police have arrested two youths named Frederick Powell and Stanley Sfithill on a charge of assault, in company. with intent to rob, the offence being committed in May last. Bail was refused, the police alleging both accused were in some way connected with the murder of Kemmi.s the hank manager. and the hammer with which Kemmis was killed has "lieen identified as one stolen from a laundry at Hornsby several days ago.
