Saturday’s inter-Union ltugby maten at Grcvmoiith J.etween the Grey and Westland Unions should prove an interesting contest. The Westland team is a fairly representative one and should give a good exhibition against the Grey team which is a strong one, even though tlje representative liver, Steel, will not be playing.
Repairs to the Municipal baths have now lreen put in hand. The work being done is carried out in accordance with the directions of Mr Raker, who is an expert with < oncreto work. The work will he carried through as quickly as circumstam es will permit,
We regret to record the death of Mr Andrew Vocasivich, which took place a.t Westland Hospital this morning. A single man. a native of Austria and 84 years of age, lie had spent about 60 years in New Zealand, for most of thftt period residing in Stafford district where lie followed mining pursuits.
During the past few days a number of loads of AAdiiteombe Square sand have been carted oil to Cass Square with a most beneficial effect to the football playing field. All the hollows which held the water are being filled up, and greasy part are also receiving attention, making the ground much safer for the players.
The repairs to the Municipal baths are now in hand, indicating that this useful adjunct to the amenities of the town will he available for service during the coming season. The citizens’ committee which will have the conduct of the baths with the approval of the Borough Council, will inaugurate the opening of the season with a tine programme and it is not unlikely that early in the season arrangements will be''made for a vist of one of the champion lady swimmers of the Dominion. It is proposed also to arrange night carnivals during the holiday season, for which purpose the electric light will he requisitioned. Special facilities are to he arranged for the schools, to enable pupils to have regular weekly lessons and so ensure the fullest possible use being made of the baths for instructional purposes.
The plain and fancy dress hall at Kokatahi Public Hall last evening in aid of the AVinter Show was a great success about two hundred patrons being present. There was a great array of fancy cost nines. Miss A’ora O’Brien being awarded the special prize donated hv Airs Houliston for the most original costume. Music wrs supplied by Mr and Airs J. AV. Kelly, while Messrs A. Alehany and AA r . Kelly had charge of the floor. During the evening songs were rendered by Alesdames AA . Diedrich, P. Jones, AHss Kelly and Air T. R„ Ohosterman. Untieing was kept up till an early hour the gathering being voted a liege success, the only fault being that the hall was not large enough for assemblage.
