United Liberals.

MATTERS OF POLICY DISCUSSED.

WELLINGTON, June 2!) 11 is officially stated that collective responsibility is to he one of the slogans ol the United Party, which held a meeting this morning. Several of the old Liberals have not yet arrived at tlie House, while one or two of the Independents, who have thrown in their lot under Mr Wilfnrd's leadership, are also absentees from Wellington, hut others attended the meeting. The attendance this morning and the accounting of members not present should ally any anxiety that the party may he supplanted in Opposition by the Labour Pnrtv.

POSTAL OFFICERS AND ALLIANCE

| LIBERALS OPPOSE AFFILIATION. WKLLINTITOX, Juno JO. Wlioii the Labour amendment relating in salary reductions teas under consideration to-night in the House, Air \\ ilford, the Liberal leader, made an explicit statement regarding the party’s attitude towards the proposal of l-lie Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association to affiliate witli tho Alliance of Lnliour. lie regretted that Air Holland had deleted from his original amendment a clause whieli would hare enabled him to record a vote on this question, for lie wanted the opportunity of recording a vote against the amalgamation of the Post and Telegraph Association with the Alliance of Labour. However, by making a statement. lie could clearly indicate the party’s position. He was firmly of opinion that the Alliance of Labour under its constitution could not function

to the advantage of State servants in their relations with the State, and lie honestly hold the opinion that it- was not in tho host interests of the Post and Telegraph Association to affiliate with the Alliance.

Air Speaker at this point intervened to call attention to the fact that the subject was irrelevant to the amendment under disc-iision.
