Hokitika High School Board.
WEDNESDAY JUNE 21st.
The Board met at 3 p.m. Present Hon. 11. L. Michel (Chairman), Messrs Murdoch, King, Bruce and D»fL The minutes wer confirmed and outward correspondence approved. IN WA RD CORRES I’ONDEN CE. From Minister of Education Wellington stating he had been advised that High School Boards have not the power to vote moneys for war memorials and that lie considered at a time like this when all available funds are'required for education purposes that no portion of the funds should he used as proposed by the Hoard.— Received; and referred to the Chairman with Member for District to interview Minister.
The Chairman reported that the lease of section No -1 at LI 7 to Clements Motors Ltd, had lieen duly executed.
A tender fo t - section G for £ls per annum was received irom James Park and accepted. Offers at £ls per annum each were received and accepted for Sect 5 Mr R. F. Perham; Sections 7 and 8 Mr Perry. Mr .T. J. Mclntosh asked for reconsideration of the annual charge for section 8. owing to the area being smaller than that of the other sections. Tt was resolved to defer consideration fill next day. Tlio question of a hostel in Hokitika was discussed at some length various viewpoints being voiced. It was finally decided to ask the Hokitika School Committee to mnko enquiries with a view to obtaining a definite statement of the support that would he forthcoming from country parents if an hostel was available in the town. It was resolved to apply to the Borough Council for rent due on swimming hatlis area. The meeting then adjourned till 3 p.m. next day to enable the Board to meet Mr McTntosh to discuss his application.
