HI.ANK KEENAN IN’ “THE BELLS”
Sir Henry Irving is not more famous for any of his great ■ stage successes thau “The Bells,” the star attraction 'to be screened at the Princess Theatre jhy Pollards to-morrow (Wednesday) ' evening. Frank Keenan who in the | star role of this feature is seen in one I of the most powerful character roles of his career as an actor of the legitimate stage, and the silent sheet. In this big feature the popular star in the role of Mathias, the old inn-keeper, in a village in Alsace. The Winter has been very hard for him and be finds himself without food or funds having to pay the landlord Liparre who demands bis monev. Then tempted by the money 1 which he knows the Jew, Kove.ski to he carrying, he murders the latter and is ever after haunted by the ringing of the bells of the murdered Jew’s sleigh. ! Vividly and in the role of a truly master actor does Mr Keenan portray the terror, and agony of mind when bis crime is repeatedly recalled by the ringing of the bells. I.ois Wilson takes the ! character of Annette. Pollard’s Hokitika Orchestra will supply a fine musical programme for the. above picture.
McLEAN’S PICTURES. TO-NIGHT. Owing to non-arrival of the film “Tlic Greatest. Love,” Mr McLean lias been compelled to substitute “The Law ol the Yukon.” a f> reel Paramount, featuring an all star caste, in its place. Further chapters of the serial ''Branded Four,” and a supporting programme will also be shown. “The Greatest Love” will be shown on Friday next.
