At tin l annual meeting of the South I sin lid Dairy Association, the chairman in his address, said that it was very satisfactory to note that the industry was getting hack to pre-war conditions. The past year had been very strenuous, owing to llucluating prices with downward tendency. The farmers had had to meet many financial difficulties, spine were forced to leave their farms. Others held on only with difficulty. 1L was urgently necessary for the farmers to increase their output to the utmost, thus not only benefiting, themselves, but the Dominion as a whole. He said about 23,000 crates of cheese and 19,000 boxes of butter would be exported this season. A motion that the association consider altering the present system of grading of cheese was defeated. Mr Singleton, director of the Dai y divison of the Agricultural Department, pointed out that if this proposal were carried, in all probability it, would ho that the producers as a whole would receive less for their produce. It was agreed that the association use its influence to get the Government to appoint more dairy inspectors in the South Island.
