There died at Trentliam Hospital on Saturday a returned soldier, laeut. Dali, whose death will he a loss to I .New Zealand. He was . the only son of Mr J. 11. The hearing of an important test case has commenced at the Supreme Court to determine whether the protection previously afforded to returned soldier tenants against ejectment hy the landlords was repealed hy Section 0 of the Housing Amendment Act, l!l-l. The ease, is one wherein Arehhihald Lawrie, a landlord, proceeded in the -Magistrate’s Court against \\ illiam llohinson, for possession of a shop-dwelling in Newtown. Skerrett appeared for the appellant, lie said that during the war .years, tenants, whether soldiers or nonsoldiers, were protected hy legislation j restricting the rent payable.
