The “Golden State Limited” (a crack passenger train) from Chicago to Los Angelos was stopped at Tucson, by eight robbers, who placed torpedoes on its track. They cut the train in tv. taking the main car five miles along the line. When the robbers prepared to dynamite the safe, Harold Stewart, the Express Messenger opened fire with a heavy rifle, killing one bandit and injuring two others. A posse of 100 cowboys are to-day pursuing them towards the Mexican border.

APPEAL TO HOUSE OF LORDS. LONDON. May 15

Armstrong’s appeal was based firstly on an allegation that Judge Darling bad improperly admitted evidence regarding the alleged attempted murder of Martin, although Armstrong was not tried on that charge; and secondly, op a plea that Justice Darling misdirected the jury. The Appreciate Judges’ rejection of the appeal was unanimous. During the first two or three days of the New South Wales loan many subscriptions of large amounts of nev money were received, indicating that the loan would be probably oversubscribed, but when the Genoa position became acute nearly the whole of it was withdrawn. Chamberlain, in the House of Commons, said that l ord CurK on (British Foreign Minister) hns sent to the French, Italian and American Government proposals for an immediate joint investigation into grav*e charges that were made against the Angora Turks, of cruelty and barbarity towards the Christian minority i" Asia Minor. Mr Chamberlain read the statements of Dr Ward, of the Near Eastern Relief Commission, stating that the Turks have been deliberately planning to exterminate the Christian minority. 'Fhisy were herding the Ottoman Clocks into Amasia in such a manner that large numbers die on the roads, on which thousands of dead bodies have been counted. These atrocities, he said, have been going on for seven years. Mr Chamberlain added that confirmation had been received of Major A’oiicll’s report that the Turks had murdered 10,000 Greeks, and they afterwards seized their widows and daughters, transferring them to the Talk harems.
