The report of the geological experts who have conducted a survey of a portion of mandated New Guinea, with a view to determining the value of the reputed oil discoveries there, it* generally unfavourable. Over 2,900 square miles were surveyed. The report states that probably small quantities ol oil could he obtained, but it is doubtful if these would repay the outlay and working cost. Thoreiore the surveyors could not recommend sinking even the best well.
