Several armed men drove np early one morning to a hotel at DungaL, in Tyrone, and shot dead the proprietor, John McCracken, a former district councillor. Some armed men removed John Cnrolan, a school teacher, and Denis Kilmartin, his nephew, from their beds in Duugiven. in County Derry, Ulster, and shot them on the roadway. The." threw them in a flax hole, from which Kilmartin crawled, dying from fire wounds. Neighbours later recovered Cardan’s body. Another armed party held up Jo m Mcßride, a former I.R.A. officer, on the roadside, at Donemana, in Tyrone, and'shot him. They lfcft him dying. Armed men in motors, raided the banks at Bailliehorough, Kilnaleck and Ballygamesduff, all in County Cavan, and'escaped with a large sum in each case. Similar hank raids were carried out at Pontvpass, County Armagh.
