HARI HARI NOTES.
(From a Correspondent)
At Easter, quite a number of residents journeyed north tor the races and other attractions. Many were the complaints about tho weather when they got hack, hut guess it was just about tlie same brand as we stock at home. However, it is the recognised privilege of travellers to complain about the weather. Qur Japanese fair was quite the success «o anticipated, ill spite of the bad weather, and the church funds are considerably augmented. In the afternoon brisk trade was done at the various stalls and tea- table. In the evening a bevy of young ladies decked out iu bright Oriental costumes delighted us with some Japanese , songs and marches. Mrs Shearer is to be complimented on the results sho produced. The business lately carried on by Air T. K. White has changed hands, and Mr White goes at the end of the month. Residents will greatly regret Mr and Airs While’s departure as they liavp been identified with every progressive movement here since they came to live among us. Air and Airs F. Ford are at present in Christchurch, seeking th ( , best possible aid for their little soli. Wo hope to see all three hack With us again in the near future. fsports of every shade will rejoice in Mr Frank Haddock’s success in the racing field. It does not fall to the luck of every man to breed and race his own stock. North Inch is an equine with good possibilities ahead of him.
Footballers arc discussing the chances of success for their teams hilled to meet the Kiwis on Saturday next.
There have been .many complaints among the ladies concerning the introduction of impromptu songs into our social gatherings. Of course everyone appreciates the music, but it would lif. ns well perhaps if the committee responsible censored the fare in order that everything may he fitting to tlie occasion and that offence may he given to none. Now that we have the Memorial Gates. A nr,lie Day has received some attention. This year there was a good attendance at the short service held there. Some beautiful wreaths were brought by the school children and friends and relatives in memory of the fallen. AYo were glad to see so many returned men present. AVc have to thank Afr White for seeing us through the management of affairs, and we quite agree with him that there was a deplorable absence of our local magnates to conduct affairs.
Our Sports Day went off most successfully. except for a hit of rain and an unfortunate mishap to one of the choppers. There was sonic delay in getting events off in time—there always is at such meetings, especially when there are chopping events. There wore good fields in all -events and some exciting finishes, and together with the refreshments provided our '“cookies” had a good day out. We are sorry no list of results is available for this week's notes.
