TUESDAY, MAY 2.
A special meeting of the Hoard was held Ut 2 p.m. Present Mfessrrt J. J. Breeze (Chairman), Blank, fcavidson, Morel, Monkj and Ritchie, MR STEVENSON APPOINTED. Applications for the'position ol working manager of the new wing and administrative qilarters at Westland Hospital were received from the following: V J, Drake, Greymouth, salary required SilO pet week of 44 hours, or will complete wojrft for £1,300. Jas. Boyd, Hokitika, £4 His per week. D. Stevenson, Hokitika, £lO per week. AV. W. Good fellow, Hokitika, £3O per month. J. A. Hart, Koiterangi, £lO per week with a bonus if work completed wdll within the specified time. W. Arnott, Greymouth, no salarystated. Tlios. Wilson, Greymouth, £7 7s per week. F. Moore, Hokitika, £7 per week, or will complete brickwork at £3 5s per TOOO bricks. Dr Vnlixtine, of the Hospitals Department wrote agreeing to the request of the Board for Mr Allen the Government Architect to act as supervisor fef the erection of the new works, and would make regular visits of inspection at intervals of a few weeks, the Board to pay travelling expenses incurred thereon.—Received; It was resolved to accept the offer of the services of Mr Allen as suprvisor. A general discussion took place as to the applications. Mr Ritchie moved that Air Stevenson be appointed Works manager. Seconded by Mr Blank. Mr Morel moved an amendment that Mr Hart be appointed. The amendment was put and lost. The motion was then put. nnd carried, Messrs Morel and Monk voting against. ■ SANATORIUM CONFERENCE. An invitation was received to attend a proposed Sanatorium Conference.— Received. After discussion it was resolved on the motion of the Chairman seconded t»y Mr Davidson that the Board regretted they could not attend the conference or guarantee any amount towards the erection of a sanatorium. DRAINAGE CONTRACT. In connection with this contract, the Inspector reported that the condition of the contract was very nnsatisfacoti v and he recommended an effort he'made to have the contract cancelled. Mr Davidson stated the whole of the conditions of the contract were unsatisfactory and dnpgerous to the institution. Mr Blank moved that the agreenupt and specifications he forwarded to the Board’s solicitors with instructions to terminate the contract of R. F. Cochrane. Seconded by Mr Monk and carried. MISCELLANEOUS. • Dr. Daniels advised he would arrive in Kumara on Thursday to take up the new duties.The Hospitals Department notified 'the granting of an advance of £IOOO on account of subsidy. . The Board then rose.
