A STEADY MARKET.

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Messrs Matson and Co. report as follows regarding their slock sale yesterday:— ; Store sheep.—A small yarding comprised mostly (ii inferior quality, but the market maintained its firmness throughout and especially for any good classes of owes, which showed an advance on last week’s sales. Best forward wethers IGs (id to 19s Gd ; others from 13s, best sound mouth ewes up to 21s 'lOd; others from 14s (id to 18s; best rape lambs up to 17, others from 12s Gd to 15s; medium and inferior 7s Gd to lls (id. Store cade.— A fairly large yarding again, but not many steers were offering. The demand all round was about j the same as last week, heifers os- ■ pccially being sought after. The yard- ! ing was practically clcaro.d at auction. Beef.—A very large yarding, including some excellent quality, and also a fair proportion of iiileiior stuff. The market for good beef was (inner than last week, but inferior and rough sorts were if anything, easier. Prime steers LID to 611.55; extra to £l6 12s (id; medium 67 10s to 69 15s jolliers 64 15tu 67; prime heifers 64 5s to 67 19s; extra to 68 Ids; others 63 15s to -5; prime young cows 69 to 67 15s; others 62 15s to 61 15s. j Mutton.— A larger yarding Limn last week, conijirising some good lines. Heavy owe. and wethers showed little if any improvement, but any prime ewes showed a decided advance, and medium and light ewes although belter, did n:t show the same improvement, j'h'i exiiig buyers were again operating keenly.
