The Hon. ,Secretary reported on the work done during the month. The painting on Cass Square hud been finished for the time being, and had the effect of brightening up the buildings and fences. The Caretaker had taken up ids duties and assisted by the Borough employees and the County road plant had carried out very useful work. The grounds were put in very creditable order for the athletic meet ing, and altogether much appreciated work was well done. The President had delivered a lecture at Kokatahi in aid of the funds and despite' the downpour there was a good attendance. * A donation of 10s had been received from Mrs Duncan, Eitzherbert Street.

The Chairman in moving the adoption of the report expressed pleasure at the manner in which Mr Haile was carrying out his work. The caretaker was showing an enthusiastic interest in his work which would result in great improvements being carried out. The swings bad been painted at a cost of £3 15s, which Mrs Butler had undertaken to repay, and the painting of the goal posts had cost- a guinea which the Rugby Union would refund. In connection with the lecture at Kokatahi. Mrs Graham had given the free use of the hall, so that there was no expense involved in the entertainment. Messrs Gibbons and McFadyen were organising a concert in Hokitika oil Empire Day for the benefit of the funds which were now in need of replenishing. They had not been bearding their funds, they were being spent to the best advantage. Extra labor bad been employed oil the Square to place it in order for the sports meeting, and it was interesting to note that the suggestion of the Association had been acted upon, and the Sports Club would pay £7 10s to the Borough funds being the ten per cent cm the gate receipts. It was resolved to approach Mr Pollard in regard to a picture benefit for the local funds, and to hold a Paddy’s Market on Cass Square on Dominion Day (September 25). Milos of thanks were passed to the President for his lecture at Kokatahi, and to the County Council for the use of the road plant on C'ass Square. .Repairs were authorised to the giant’s stride on C’ass Square.
