BRITISH CONFERENCE. LONDON. April 18

The Independent Labour Conference passed a resolution opposing an alliance with the “Wee Frees” (Liberals), or any other party inside or outside of Parliament.

zMr C. I*. Trevelyan declared -that the Wee Free statesmen were equally responsible with the Coalitionists for the present state of Europe. Lord Grey’s return to politics made Labour opposition doubly necessary. The Labour hope rested upon an alliance with the Labour Socialist parties of Europe. The Conference rejected a motion favouring affiliation with Communists. One speaker quoted a prominent Communist’s declaration that the Communists wanted to take Labour by the hand in order to get Labour by the throat.
