i ChTHALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOUi^WON FIRES AT BELFAST. LONDON, April 18. Two series of fires occurred in one street in Belfast. Fifteen houses were almost all destroyed. Several people were wounded by gunshot. " Wholesale sniping by Unionist gunmen occurred in Belfast on Monday night, and continued this morning. So far nine have been wounded, some critically. A large party made a desperate assault on the Antigua Street Catholic quarter at the points of rifles and. revolvers. They turned out the residents and then set fire to the dwel- ** lings, destroying fifteen/ The brigade was twice summoned and found seven * houses burning simultaneously . This morning, snipers occupied the ritiges of the garden plots in Broadway,' a hitherto peaceful district and fired into the Catholic quarers, including St Mary’s Training College.
LONDON, April 18
The King has approved of the new Constabulary forming in Ulster, being named the Royal Ulster Constabulary. Irregulars captured Brigade Commandant Linehan and Vice-Command-ant Crowley of the Free State army and imprisoned them in Kenniare barracks. They are hunger striking.
BELFAST HAPPENINGS. LONDON, April 18
Disturbances in Belfast continued during the evening. Several shops were looted and more houses set on fire. The military continued a prolonged duel with snipers. An officer and private in the Norfolk Regiment were wounded.

A midnight attack was made on Wellington barracks, Dublin, occupied bj Free State troops. Six attackers were captured, with a motor car. One sentry was wounded.
OUTRAGES IN BELFAST. LONDON, April 18.
Sniping by the Unionist gunmm* which occurred in Belfast on Monday night was continued this morning. So far nine people have been wounded, some critically. One large party made a deperate assaull on the Antigua Street Catholic
quarters. At the points of their rifles and revolvers they turned out the residents. Then they s et fire to the dwellings, destroying 15. The Fire Brigade was twice summoned. It found seven houses burning simultaneously.
This morning the snipers occupied the ridges of the garden plots in Broadway, a hitherto peaceful district, and they fired into the Catholic quarters, including St, Mary’s Training College.^
THE SALOON MURDERS. LONDON, April 16. The “Sunday Express” Dublin correspondent states that the affidavits of several witnesses have been forwarded to the Ulster Premier identifying the murderers of the MacMahons as members of the Ulster special police from tlu> Belfast barracks. The Southern Government has sent Sir James Craig .•in imperative demand for the arrest and trial of the accused men.
