[by TELEGRAPH —PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON POSTAL MEN. SEAMAN HUNDRED TO FOUR FOR JOINING. WELLINGTON, April 12. The annual meeting of members of the. AVellington branch of the P. and T. Officers’ Association was held tonight. and. was largely attended. The formal meeting was held in private, but a discussion on the question of the -affiliation with the Alliance of Labour was taken in open meeting. Mr Coombs, (General Secretary) addressed those present on the question. After some discussion, in which no serious opposition was raised to the proposal, a resolution expressing confidence in the General Secretary and ithe executive wa« passed almost unanimously. An amendment to shelve the matter indefinitely was defeated. Only four voted in its favour, while over 700 voted against.

COATES’S “HURRY UP” TACTICS AVELLINGTON, Aprli 12.

Respecting the P. and T. Officers’ Association’s reply to Hon Mr Coates’s communication, Mr Coates lias again written to the Association, saying their reply fails to meet the desires of the Government.

He continues: —“My letter of the seventh inst clearly indicates that a reply was desired at the earliest possible date. Your statement is to the effect that the matter will be considered at the next quarterly meeting of your Executive Committee. This will mean undue delay and with a view to assisting you, facilities will be granted the members of your Executive, or delegates, to attend at Wellington This should enable your Association tr consider the matter, and reply at an early date.
