School Staff—During the year Miss Lnvcock (now Mrs Perry) resigned from the position of 2nd assistant on the High School staff. The vacancy was filled hy Miss Mavne of Christchurch, and the Committee are pleased to say that she is very successfully carrying on the work of her predecessor, Owing to the attendance at the High School falling off we lost the services of Miss Stirling. The Inspector’s annual report again gave proof that a very high standard had been maintained in all branches of school work. For this we are indebted to the Rector and every member of the teaching staff. The attendance in both the Primary and High School has materially increased during the year. The former which stood at 306 last year new stands at 346, while the figures for the latter are 66 and 66, a net total gain of 39. AA'e would urge on the parents the importance ot' sending ' the children regularly to school.

The Committee recognise the greater necessity than ever for the estalishment ol a Boys’ Hostel. This has been the subject matter for several communications with- the Minister for Education. We are earnestly awaiting the latter’s visit to bring the urgency of the matter under his personal observation.

The Foundation Stone of the School AVar Memorial was duly laid by the Masonic Fraternity on June 4th.

I cannot close this report without acknowledging the good work that Mr Preston has done during the past year in furthering the interests of the school in his capacity as Secretary of the Committee.

An audited balance sheet of the Committee’s finance is also submitted. The thanks of the Committee are also due to the press for favourable consideration shown throughout the year.
