SUCCESSFUL SALVAGE. SYDNEY, April 13
A salvage syndicate was formed in Sydney in January and chartered a ketch and proceeded to Deal Island, Bass Straits, where the Karitane was wrecked on Christmas Eve, when bars of copper and precipitates wore lost valued at twenty-five thousand. All hut twenty bars were recovered, vMucis one of the most successful salvage enterprises on record.

Mr Hughes informed the representatives of the meat industry that tho meat subsidy docs not include mutton. The action is taken in regard to beef only, because the industry is in extremis.
