ALLEGED THEFT
fn the ease in which Phillip Darn.an had pleaded guilty to theft, at the morning sitting, and had been remanded for the report of the probation officer, the magistrate slated hehad received the report asked for. and also one from his.-former employers. These reports were of a favorable nature. He was going to give weight to these, and admit the defendant to probation for twelve months, and he would have to report to the police '■.cry month. ; ‘ Jl-VKNTLE conn'.. I A lad of fourteen years, was chnrgi ed in connection with the ease above, i of theft. Mr Sellers appeared for the ! defence, and the Court was cleared | during the hearing. The defence was ! an absolute denial of any connection ! whatever with the charge. Evidence I for the police was given on lines to that in other- cases. .His Worship said he could not accept the evidence ol j the defence in view of the evidence of I the prosecution, and convicted the defendant, who was admitted to probnI tion for six months, and ordeied to j import to the police once a- month.
