AN EASING MARKET

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Messrs Matson and Co. report as follows re -aiding their slock sale yesterday •

Store Sheep—Another very heavy yarding, and all classes of sheep were well represented. The market opened well, but as the sale progressed competition weakned. Extra good 2-toot owes up to 29s 9d, others from 17s 6d to 225; best sound mouth ewes from ]6s to 225; best forward wethers from 17s to 21s; others from l2s to 16s; best rape lambs from 14s to 16s; others from 10s 6d to 13s. Some extra good lambs made 17s i9d. The general tone of to-day’s market showed an easing tendency which might easily continue. Too many travelled sheep are coming on the market. Store Cattle—A small yarding, mostly nondescript lots, and practically no big cattle were yarded and no quotable lines were offering. The demand generally was firm. Beef—Another large yarding and the quality generally was indifferent, not many well finished cattle offering The market opened slightly easier than last week, but got considerably worse as it progressed and a fair proportion were passed at auettion. Taking tilings all round, the market was considerably easier throughout. The position seems that there is more beef available than butchers require. Prime steers £8 15s, to £l3 7s sd, extra to £ls; medium £6 10s to £8 10s; others £4 to £6; prime heifers £5 to £8; others £3 to £4 15s. (Prime cows £4 15s to £8 ss ; others £2 10s to £4 10s.

i Mutton—A fairly large yarding, comprising mostly ewes, and the majority were of a very indifferent quality. Any good heavy ewes showed a decided improvement bnt medium and lighter sorts were the same. Not many good wethers were yarded and these showed a slight improvement. Prime wethers 20s 6d to 255; extra to ‘29s 9d; medium 18s to 19s 6d; lighter down to 16« 10d ; prime ewes 15s to 19s; extra to 23s 6d; others 12b to 14s 6d. Lambs again showed an advance averaging round about 8d per lb over all. Two lines of West Coast shorn lambs made from 20s 8d to 24s lid.
