BANKRUPT’S BREACHES.
MASTERTON. March 28. Four charges in connection with the alleged breaches of the Bankruptcy Act were preferred against Ernest Robert Ward, carrier, of Masterton in the Supreme Court.‘The informations were laid by Arthur Row, Deputy Official (Assignee. Ward was charged that he had failed'to keep hooks clearly showing his financial position to his bankruptcy, and that between March Ist and April 3rd, 1921, he contracted debts with Allan and Co. fCI 1 16s Id) Wilton’-and -Tonkin. (£l3 1.1 s), and Andrews and Roloh (£29 Is 3d), knowing that he had no reasonable prospects of being able to pay them in addition to his other debts. Mr R. R. Biirridge renrosented the Deputy Official Assignee, and Mr R. McKenzie appeared for the accused. Tn outlining his case, -Mr Biirridge said that' under flic Bnnkrupey Act if was incumbent on men in business to keep a proper set of ho-oks to show their financial position. This the accused had failed to do, and, in addition ho had incurred further d»bts, during the period mentioned in the charge, knowing at the time that lip was uncertain as to his financial position. The breach lay not merely in the incurring of the debts, hut in thej knowledge that he had no reasonable prospects of meeting these accounts as well us others that were owin" at the time. T-Tis records of business transactions wore kept in rough diaries.
